One of the most common troubleshooting situations for Litter-Robot 3 users can exist solved with the press of a push—the Reset button.

To understand why and meet if it can solve an issue you're having, read on.

The Cat Sensor

Litter-Robot-4309 Litter-Robot at standby (solid blueish light).

The Litter-Robot relies on the True cat Sensor to know when your true cat is within and when it'south time to make clean up. The True cat Sensor is a weight-sensitive switch that measures the weight of the unit of measurement, and so it tin tell when at that place'due south a changeand what that change means.

Each time the unit of measurement is powered on and at the end of each Clean cycle, the True cat Sensor measures the weight of the unit of measurement. The Cat Sensor and so uses that weight as its new baseline. When the cat enters, the Cat Sensor detects increased weight, and knows not to perform a Make clean cycle. Westwardhen the true cat exits, the Cat Sensor detects a decrease in weight (an most consummate return to its baseline), and allows the countdown to a Make clean cycle to begin. Eventually (iii, 7, or 15 minutes later—whatever you accept your unit set to), a Clean wheel will start, and upon finishing, the Cat Sensor will take another measurement of the weight to use as its new baseline.

A skillful practice, and then, is to power the unit off before making any changes that volition affect its weight, including:

  • emptying the Waste Drawer,
  • adding litter to the Globe, or
  • cleaning or moving the unit.

When you lot're done, turn the unit back on. It will cycle, then return to the Home position with the blue light on, and the Cat Sensor will take a new reading of the unit's weightassuring your Litter-Robot volition function properly.

The Reset Button

The Reset button is and so named because information technology resets the Cat Sensor. You can think of the True cat Sensor as the scale and the Reset button as a way to nix the scale.

To reset the Cat Sensor, the unit must exist at the Habitation position with a solid blueish low-cal displayed on the control console. If you press Reset while the unit is cycling, information technology will pause the cycle; but printing Cycle to restart the wheel or Reset to abort the bike and return the Globe to the Home position. (If you press and concord the Reset push button for nigh five seconds, yous will activate Control Panel Lockout mode, which disables button functions to keep pesky push pushers from changing your settings; just press and hold again to deactivate.)

To reset the Cat Sensor, press Reset when the unit is at the Dwelling position and the command panel displays a solid blue light.

Press the Reset button firmly and rapidly, then scout for the blueish light to flash to confirm you accept successfully reset the Cat Sensor. On some units, the blueish light will wink apace (press Reset once again if y'all think you lot missed it!), and on other units, the blue lite will flash in one case quickly, so in one case slowly, before returning to its solid blue standby state (on both types of units). Be careful not to rest on the unit of measurement as yous press the Reset push or your weight will influence the baseline reading of the unit of measurement and throw off the Cat Sensor.

As the unit of measurement gains weight from employ (your cat's waste, that is), the True cat Sensor measures that change afterward each Clean cycle and continues to brand the unit more sensitive to small changes in weight. If you lot press the Reset button difficult, for more than than one second, or lean on the unit (gear up your manus on Bonnet, etc.), the True cat Sensor will consider that weight in its adjustment, resulting in a bad reading. Brand sure to printing the Reset button firmly and chop-chop, without putting whatsoever other pressure on the unit.

You can likewise turn the unit off and then on to reset the Cat Sensor and ensure the baseline is set properly.

Go an Accurate Reading

Litter-Robot-4315 Press the Reset push button after you do anything that affects the unit'due south weight (such as adding litter, removing waste matter, or cleaning or moving the unit of measurement).

Information technology may seem pretty straightforward (just the printing of a push button!), simply there may exist other factors affecting the Cat Sensor's ability to go an accurate measurement—so even when yous're pressing the Reset push button correctly, the reading is flawed.

Cheque your unit of measurement for the following:

The unit is making fifty-fifty contact with a firm surface.

Make sure your Litter-Robot is sitting on firm, level basis. The reading can be thrown off by carpeting because it absorbs some of the unit of measurement's weight, which would make the unit call up it's lighter than it really is. Or, if your Litter-Robot is on tile floor, it may wobble on the grout lines, resulting in unreliable readings. If you must proceed your Litter-Robot on these surfaces, place a board underneath to ensure even contact with a firm surface.

The unit isn't pushed into a corner or confronting a wall or piece of furniture.

Make sure your Litter-Robot is complimentary-standing and not leaning on anything. After emptying the Waste Drawer and pushing the drawer back into place, double check that you oasis't pushed the whole unit upwards against anything before pressing Reset.

Objects aren't resting or pressing on the unit.

Make sure nothing is putting weight on the unit. Check that homemade cabinets or shelves around the unit, your errant laundry, or your other hand isn't touching the unit when you press the Reset push.

At present that you know how important the Cat Sensor is and how the Reset button functions, you'll know what to do if an issue arises. Any time you interact with your Litter-Robot—either on purpose for maintenance or accidentally considering you nudged it—the best practice is to check the environment to make certain it'south free-continuing, so hitting the Reset button. A reliable baseline reading will ensure your Cat Sensor functions properly to detect your true cat and make clean up—and then you don't accept to!
